About APA 2007
Why You Should Come

The National Planning Conference is the premier event in the planning field held annually each spring attracting over 6,000 American Planning Association members and nonmembers together to discuss issues affecting the planning profession, and to present proven strategies to solve community problems.

The American Planning Association is a nonprofit, professional, and educational association that serves the public interest and promotes the field of city and regional planning. It represents more than 30,000 practicing planners, elected and appointed officials, and citizens concerned with city and regional planning. Formed in 1978, APA was created from the merger of the American Society of Planning Officials, whose office was in Chicago, and the American Institute of Planners, whose offices were in Washington, DC. More detailed information on the organization can be found on the APA website at www.planning.org.

APA and its members carry a deep tradition of innovation and research designed to reflect diverse planning solutions as well as learn from allied professional and community leaders.  We welcome architects, landscape architects, engineers, environmental consultants, land use attorneys, real estate developers as well as local governmental elected and appointed officials to the annual national conference.  Students and interested members of the public are also encouraged to attend.

The people who attend the APA annual conference are planning professionals, agency directors, elected and appointed decision makers interested in:

  • Learning new ideas and fresh viewpoints on a wide variety of topics related to planning great communities
  • Seeing latest application of innovative planning solutions by        attending mobile workshops examining current planning activities and points of interest in the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley Region.
  • Hearing emerging and continuing national planning issues debated including special interest topics of the various types of agencies and fields represented.
  • Staying up to date with the latest industry trends and seizing the year's best opportunity to heighten awareness of individuals as companies recognized within the national planning community.
  • Making valuable personal contacts among this enthusiastic and influential group who are involved in virtually every aspect of America's community development today
